A man’s been arrested after several teenagers were reportedly threatened with a gun in Devizes.
The serious incident is said to have happened in the Hillworth Park area earlier this evening (Sunday).
Police swarmed the area in search of an alleged gunman – and the National Police Air Service helicopter from Wallingford, Oxfordshire, was sent to assist officers on the ground.
Numerous police vehicles were parked on Hillworth Road and officers there prevented pedestrians from walking past as they dealt with a potential suspect vehicle.
Wiltshire 999s understands that a teenage boy and two teenage girls were allegedly threatened by the man, sparking a huge police response.
A man, aged in his 60s, is now in custody following the incident – and police say there is no ongoing threat to members of the public.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “We have arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
“This follows reports of a man with a suspected firearm in Hillworth Park, Devizes shortly after 6pm today (12/02).
“The suspect is currently in police custody. We would like to assure the public that there is no ongoing threat.
“Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call us on 101 quoting log 257 of today (12/02).”
