Man arrested on suspicion of starting Swindon flat blaze ‘with intent to endanger life’

A man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a fire in Swindon ‘with intent to endanger life’.

Emergency services were called to a serious fire at a block of flats in Marney Road, Grange Park, shortly after 11pm last night (Sunday, 17 July).

Four fire engines – from Swindon, Westlea, Stratton and Royal Wootton Bassett attended the scene.

Approximately 20 firefighters worked to extinguish the flames using two hose reel jets, two main jets and an aerial ladder platform.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody this afternoon.

Two crime scene investigators have spent the day combing the fire damaged property for evidence, whilst an officer guards the scene.
