Man arrested and car seized as police find counterfeit cigarettes at house

A man was arrested following a call to police about activity in a residential street in Swindon.

On arrival at the scene in Basil Close at around 7.50pm this evening where they found a suspect in possession of what officers believe to be a large number of counterfeit cigarettes.

The officers arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of possession of counterfeit goods and money laundering. He remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Police were seen removing a number of boxes from a house in Basil Close, which neighbours told Wiltshire 999s had been uninhabited for several months.

A black Mercedes E220 was seized following the man’s arrest.
