Man arrested after police assaulted during routine traffic stop in Swindon

Police officers were assaulted whilst carrying out a routine traffic stop in Swindon last night.

At just before midnight officers pulled over a black Nissan in The Circle, Pinehurst, before the male driver became uncooperative and aggressive towards them sparking an urgent call for backup.

Several Wiltshire 999s readers reported seeing more than ten police vehicles at the scene.

“A 40-year-old man from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
