Man ‘armed with large knife’ detained after two-hour incident at house in Swindon

A man has been arrested following an incident at a house in Swindon.

Emergency services were called to an address in Hilmarton Avenue, Penhill, at around 5.30pm this evening (Sunday, 19 June).

Police, the ambulance service and fire crews attended the incident following a call reporting concerns about the welfare of a man within the property.

Local residents claim a man was threatening violence and self-harm from an upstairs window – whilst he was reportedly armed with a “large knife”.

The road was closed by police for around two hours whilst 999 crews worked at the scene.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that a man in his 20s was detained and arrested by officers.
