A man has been airlifted to hospital after the van he was driving ploughed into a tree.
Emergency services were called to the serious incident in The Packway, Larkhill, shortly after 10.30am this morning (4 December).
A small section of the road was closed in both directions to allow fire crews from Salisbury and Andover extricate the male casualty a blue Volkswagen Caddy.
The vehicle left the road and collided with a tree outside Larkhill Medical Centre.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed on a field alongside Larkhill Camp as the charity’s critical care medics raced to provide treatment to the casualty.
The helicopter is understood to have airlifted the patient to Southampton General Hospital, the nearest Regional Major Trauma Centre.
The Packway has been closed in both directions since the crash, with police at the scene and the blue van remained in situ at 3.30pm.
The man’s condition is currently unknown, but Wiltshire Police this morning confirmed he was taken to hospital.
It’s not clear how long the road closure will remain in place, but the diversion about the scene was described as “short” by local residents.
