Man admits causing Chippenham crash – despite not having a driving licence

A man has admitted to causing a crash in Chippenham whilst driving without a licence.

Liam Mortimore, 29, pleaded guilty to careless driving and driving without a licence or insurance at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (17 May).

Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving a Ford Fiesta and Mercedes-Benz A250 in London Road at around 7.30pm on 14 May last year.

Mortimore, driving the Ford, ploughed into the other vehicle near the junction with Cricketts Lane.

The defendant, who grew up in Chippenham but now lives in Windham Road, Boscombe, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving at the scene, but was released without charge.

Police later charged Mortimore – who didn’t hold a driving licence and subsequently did not have valid motor insurance – with causing the smash by careless driving.

He admitted the offences in court, but the case was adjourned until 28 June.
