Man, 19, from Calne arrested for drug driving after police spot an uninsured car

A 19-year-old man from Calne has been arrested for drug driving after being stopped by roads policing officers when their on-board ANPR camera picked up his uninsured car.

The team stopped the white Mercedes on Oxford Road in Calne at around 2pm yesterday.

The vehicle was seized for showing no insurance, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving not in accordance with his licence and driving with no insurance.

But a smell emitting from the car gave officers concerns over possible drug use.

Following a search, he was then arrested on suspicion of possessing of a Class B drug and for providing a positive drugs swipe at the roadside.

The vehicle was recovered and the young local male was taken to Melksham custody.
