A main road in Swindon is closed after a child riding a scooter was hit by a car on a crossing.

An eyewitness who provided first aid at the scene said: “he’s not in a good way”. Another said they saw the child “flying through the air” after being struck.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance critical care medics were at the incident, travelling there by car.

Queens Drive is closed in the direction of Coate Water between Drakes Way and Somerville Road.

Talking to Wiltshire 999s at the scene, Acting Sergeant 1563 Jay Clifton has asked anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage of the incident to contact him at the roads policing unit by calling 101.

The specialist officer also confirmed that, at this stage of their investigation, he does not believe the driver of the car involved in the crash has committed any offences.
