Main road closed as air ambulance lands for incident near Royal Wootton Bassett

Emergency services are attending a serious incident near Royal Wootton Bassett.

The A3102 Swindon Road has been closed in both directions as ambulances and police units respond to the scene outside The Sally Pussey’s Inn.

Great Western Air Ambulance landed near the incident at 1.30pm.

One witness reports seeing a bicycle on the roadside, with a cyclist being treated by paramedics. It’s not clear if it is following a collision or a medical episode.

The main road’s shut between the town and junction 16 of the M4, causing significant delays in the local area.


UPDATE 2PM: Wiltshire Police has released the following statement:

“We were called at 1.10pm today (17/03) due to an incident on the A3102 Swindon Road, between Royal Wootton Bassett and the junction with the M4.

“A cyclist, a man in his 70s, had been injured and has been taken to Great Western Hospital by land ambulance.

“We do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the incident.”
