Coronavirus lockdown to be extended ‘with only small changes on Monday’

The Prime Minister is expected to relax some of the coronavirus lockdown measures on Monday, but the regulations will remain largely unchanged for three more weeks.

Dominic Raab confirmed that Boris Johnson will announce some “modest, small and incremental” changes on Monday but the lockdown would remain, adding that changes will be “carefully monitored”.

He repeatedly stated: “I’ve said it very clearly – there is no change in the rules today.”

He also stressed that if people break the rules as some are relaxed, then a full lockdown could be put back in place, especially if cases begin to rise again in the coming days and weeks.

The Secretary of State told the public that it’s ‘really important that people continue to follow the guidance’ over the Bank Holiday weekend to prevent a rise in deaths.
