Laser beam hits aircraft flying over Wiltshire – police investigation launched

An aircraft has been hit by a green laser beam while flying over Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Police has launched an investigation into the incident, which happened on Thursday (4 November) at around 6.24pm.

It’s believed the laser was shone at the aircraft from south of Corsham, near Chippenham.

The incident was reported to police by the National Air Traffic Service, the main air navigation service provider in the UK.

Anyone with information about the incident, which could have endangered to lives of many, should call police on 101 quoting reference POL-20211104-0252.

In July 2020, Wiltshire Air Ambulance was hit by a laser in the same area – as the helicopter was returning to its Semington base from a life-saving mission.

Only months later, in September, the charity’s aircraft was hit by another laser and had to abort its landing in Trowbridge.
