Large police and ambulance response to ‘serious assault’ in Melksham

UPDATE: Two arrests as detectives probe Melksham assault that left woman injured

Emergency services were called to a serious incident in Melksham this afternoon (Friday).

A significant number of police and ambulance were deployed to the scene in the vicinity of the Old Stable House in High Street at around 3.30pm.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics, travelling in a rapid response vehicle, were also in attendance. Witnesses claim they were running towards the incident with defibrillator on arrival.

A man, who emerged from within the crime scene, told Wiltshire 999s that there had been an altercation involving two women and one required urgent medical care.

At 5pm, three detectives from Melksham CID were on scene as a person – believed to be an assault suspect – was held in the cage of a police van.

It’s believed one casualty was taken to hospital, and one was taken into police custody.

At the height of the incident, local residents reported seeing approximately six marked police units and three ambulance vehicles.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
