An incredible photograph captured an intense combine harvester fire in Wiltshire.

Firefighters were called to the serious blaze in a field in Netherhampton, near Salisbury, shortly before 7pm yesterday evening (2 September).

When three fire crews – from Wilton and Salisbury – arrived at the scene, it was found that the flames were spreading from the vehicle to nearby crops.

Backup was requested and fire appliances from Andover and Fordingbridge, in Hampshire, were sent to the incident.

The smoke plume was also large and could be seen for miles around.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: The fire was extinguished using two jets, two hose reels, beaters and drags.

“On site farm machinery was also used to create a fire break to help extinguish the fire.”

The quick work of farm works and the fire service prevented a large number of crops from being destroyed, with only a 15 metre by 25 metre area affected.
