Illegally modified bicycle rider ‘captured’ after fleeing police bikes

The rider of an illegally modified bicycle was ‘captured’ by police officers on bikes.

After spotting the blue lights, the rider attempted to evade the biker cops by using back alleys in central Swindon today (Thursday).

Despite their efforts to flee, the officers managed to stop the rider. The bicycle was found to have been modified with an external battery pack.

The rider was reported to court in connection with the matter.

Electric bicycles are only legal if they comply with the law – non-compliant two-wheelers are classed as motor vehicles and therefore would require a licence, insurance and a crash helmet, for example.

Wiltshire Police say roads policing officers were assisting local police with an operation specifically targeting criminality linked to the use of electric bicycles.
