Hundreds of children likely to leave school today as parents try to avoid ruined Christmas

Hundred of children across Wiltshire are likely to leave school a week early as parents try to avoid a ruined Christmas.

If a pupil tests positive within a school bubble from today (11 December), the entire bubble may be forced to self-isolate on Christmas Day.

Despite the government relaxing the rules for five days – between 23 and 27 December – anyone told to self-isolate will, by law, have to sacrifice their Christmas freedoms, cancel all visitors to their home and stay indoors.

Children pulled out of school today will severely lower the risk of Christmas Day in isolation.

The Welsh government today announced that schools and colleges there will close from 14 December, meaning pupils will not face giving up their five-day coronavirus rules break due to having contact with a positive test at school.

It comes following the latest scientific advice which suggests people should self-isolate for 10 days ahead of the period where up to three households are allowed to mix indoors, ITV News reports.
