Homeless man arrested for arson after primary school goes up in flames

Firefighters have been tackling a fire at a school since the early hours of this morning.

The emergency services were called to the major blaze at Avenue Primary School, on The Avenue, Warminster, at around 3.20am.

A homeless man, aged 34, has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Wiltshire Police say that “damage estimated at several thousand pounds was caused to a portacabin and the incident is being treated as suspicious.”

A crew Trowbridge remain at the scene at 8am this morning, 4 January, alongside three other fire crews from across the county.

A number of school buildings have been affected.

Avenue Primary School is closed today.
