A major road in Royal Wootton Bassett has been closed following a serious road traffic collision.

999 crews rushed to the scene in High Street shortly after 12.30pm today (Wednesday) after a pedestrian was hit by a yellow Wiltshire Concrete-branded lorry.

A man, aged in his 70s, has been taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.

Wiltshire Police has closed the road in both directions whilst medics, supported by Great Western Air Ambulance, attended to the casualty.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are currently in attendance at a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian in Royal Wootton Bassett High Street, after being called to the scene at 12.35pm today.

“Ambulance crews are at the scene and the air ambulance is also attending. Please avoid the area.”

The road is expected to remain closed for several hours. Updates follow.
