Elderly woman crashed into wall after ‘dodging squirrel’ in road

An elderly woman crashed into a wall to avoid a squirrel in the road this morning.

A specialist heavy rescue unit from Trowbridge travelled more than 30 miles, taking around 30 minutes, to Giles Road in Swindon where the vehicle was covered in bricks.

The ambulance service had called for the support of Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service after arriving at the scene on the Haydon End estate at around 8.30am.

A neighbour told Wiltshire 999s that the lady, who was driving a Nissan Mirca, was ‘dodging a squirrel’ and luckily didn’t suffer any injuries in the crash.

Firefighters from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea and Trowbridge used a winch and made the scene safe, according to a fire service spokesperson.
