Groups of six can meet in parks and gardens from Monday, PM announces

Groups of six people from separate households are able to meet outside – including in gardens – from Monday the Prime Minister announced today.

“We will allow up to six people to meet outside, provided those from different households continue strictly to observe social distancing rules by staying two metres apart”, Boris Johnson said.

Adding: “We will now allow people to meet in gardens and other private outdoor spaces.

“People should not be inside the homes of their friends and families, not inside the homes of your friends and families unless it is to access the garden, to get to the garden.”

He also revealed these changes in today’s coronavirus update:

  • People will be able to play golf in groups of four, and tennis doubles from Monday
  • Schools will open next week as planned – but for a small number of pupils only
  • Non-essential shops are set to return from June 1 and June 15 as the PM revealed last week

Those who have been asked to shield for a 12 week period should continue to do so, and those with coronavirus symptoms or have tested positive should remain in self-isolation.
