Frome residents told to stay indoors as armed police called to man with weapon

Some Frome residents were told to stay indoors whilst armed police dealt with a serious incident involving a man with a weapon this evening.

There’s a large police presence in Marston Lane, near Critchhill Road, at around 4.45pm.

The National Police Air Service helicopter circled overhead – focusing its search in the south-west area of the town. It was stood down at around 6.30pm.

Police officers were seen armed with shields and guns outside a property whilst paramedics were witnessed wearing white suits. A dog unit is also at the scene.

One local says she heard “lots of shouting” moments before police arrived at the incident on blue lights and sirens, alongside an ambulance.

Another said armed police had told people in the immediate vicinity to “move away and go indoors” whilst officers respond to the serious incident.

“I live here and police have told us to stay inside”, a woman who didn’t want to be named said.

UPDATE 9.10PM: “We received a call at about 4.45pm this afternoon (Monday 5 October) about a man with a weapon at an address in Marston Lane in Frome”, Avon and Somerset Police said.

“Armed officers were deployed but he had left the scene before their arrival.

“Efforts to locate the offender are ongoing and enquiries continue.”
