Friend issues warning after Swindon woman picked up by fake taxi and attacked

A man pretending to be a taxi driver picked up and attacked a highly intoxicated woman in Swindon town centre last night, according to reports on social media.

The post, shared on Facebook by the victim’s friend, warns others to “be careful” when out drinking in the town following the very worrying alleged incident on Friday.

Laurie Elizabeth claimed that the vehicle ‘had all the markings of a taxi’, and that her friend “fought him off” her during the shocking encounter.

Anyone using a taxi service are always advised to book it via the company directly and wait for a call-back, or text message which usually includes the number place, to confirm your taxi is legitimate.
