Foster parent accused of rape and sexual abuse of children in his care

A foster parent has appeared in court charged with eleven child sex offences.

The middle-aged Swindon man, who cannot be named in order to protect the victims’ identities, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court this morning.

Crown prosecutor Asha Seenauth said the defendant is accused of sexually abusing foster children in his and his wife’s care over a nine-year period.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sought to remand him in custody.

He faces a total of eleven allegations including three rapes of a child under 16, the rape of a woman aged over 16, two sexual assaults by penetration of a girl aged under 13, two sexual assaults of a child aged under 13 and three sexual assaults of a child aged under 16.

A victim is said to have disclosed the abuse to the man’s wife earlier this week, resulting in his arrest and charging for the alleged offences yesterday.

Gordon Hotson, defending, said his client wished to indicate a plea of guilty. No bail application was made on the accused behalf.

Magistrates granted the CPS application to remand him in custody. They adjourned the case to Swindon Crown Court for a plea and preparation hearing in July.
