Forensic work ongoing in field where Swindon boy was repeatedly knifed

Forensic work is ongoing in a field where a Swindon boy was repeatedly knifed.

The teenager was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds following a “disorder” next to a fun fair on Meadowcroft Fields yesterday (Thursday 8 June).

A crime scene investigator arrived at the scene this morning (Friday) and carried out forensic work – they are expected to remain at the location for most of the day.

The 17-year-old victim remains in a life-threatening condition at Southmead Hospital, the town’s nearest Major Trauma Centre.

Wiltshire Police said that a Section 60 order was put in place following the incident – which allows officers to stop and search anyone without grounds to suspect they are committing crime.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A section 60 order covering most of Swindon and Highworth was put in place at 10.56pm yesterday and will be in force for 24 hours.

“This order allows police officers to stop and search anyone in a specific area without needing to have reasonable grounds.

“Extensive enquiries in relation to the stabbing are ongoing and there will remain a heightened police presence in the area.

“Anyone who witnessed or has information on the incident is urged to contact us on 101 quoting log 344 of June 8.”
