Firefighters tackle blaze at house on major route in Swindon

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a house on a major route in Swindon.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Oxford Road at around 9am this morning (Tuesday).

Heavy smoke was billowing from the property as fire crews got ready to battle the flames.

The road is blocked by emergency services, closed in both directions by the police.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Oxford Road, Lower Stratton is closed following a house fire.

“Officers are supporting our colleagues at Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service while they work on the fire.

“The road is closed from the White Hart roundabout due to large amounts of smoke. Please avoid the area.”
