Fire service animal officer deployed after reports of cow stuck in River Avon

The fire service was called to reports of a cow stuck in a river this morning (25 September).

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed its animal tactical advisor to the scene at Dundas Aqueduct, near Bradford on Avon, following a call from a member of the public.

In attendance at just after 8am, the specialist animal rescue officer worked with a local farmer to release the cow from the River Avon.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Call from a member of public stating a cow is stuck in a river.

“Mobilised our animal tactical advisor to assess the situation.

“Officer liaised with the farmer who managed to open the gate to allow the cow to return to the herd and away from the river.”

No physical action was taken by the fire service.
