Fire investigation launched into major garage blaze in Waterhay

An investigation has been launched into the cause of a major fire near Swindon yesterday.

Around 50 firefighters from across three counties – Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire – were called to the scene between Waterhay and Chelworth at around 2.30pm on Saturday.

On arrival they found a large double garage and external oil tank fully alight.

A senior firefighter at the scene told Wiltshire 999s that they had been dealing with a number of complications at the scene and low water pressure in the area hindering their efforts.

At the height of the incident, ten fire engines, four senior officers and a number of support vehicles were in attendance, according to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesperson said that the crews are used five hose reel jets, two main lines, ladders, foam and an aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire.
