Firefighters called to deal with fire involving train near park in Swindon

Firefighters are dealing with a fire involving a train next to a country park in Swindon.

Three fire engines and a water carrier are in attendance on Thamesdown Drive this lunchtime (Sunday).

The fire is on the Swindon and Cricklade Railway (SCR) line alongside Moulden Hill Country Park.

SCR events coordinator Emma Titcombe said: “The situation is under control. It is believed the fire is out but the firefighters are still on scene and assessing the situation to ensure there is no further risk.

“No one is hurt and the Santa Special service continues to run without issue.”

Fire crews were stood down at around 1.30pm. However, one fire engine was unable to leave the scene due to being stuck in the mud in a nearby field.
