A man refusing to give up his barbecue lunch has been issued a fine for breaching lockdown laws.

Wiltshire Police were called to reports of a gathering at a lake in Swindon this afternoon where they found a man cooking at the water’s edge.

The man was told to leave Claridges Pool in Stratton and return home as the Coronavirus Act doesn’t permitted people to be out the house for non-essential reasons.

But he refused to give up his barbecue and was issued with a £60 Fixed Penalty Notice.

A police spokesperson said: “This male was reminded of the rules and explained in detail that cooking lunch on a BBQ in a public space was not permitted and encouraged to go home but this was not enough to persuade him to abandon his burgers and leave.

“This male eventually left after receiving a Fixed Penalty Notice for breaching the rules and not following direction to return home. Please stay home and save lives.”
