‘Extremely drunk’ driver in custody after fleeing Christmas Day crash

An ‘extremely drunk’ driver is in custody following a crash in the early hours of Christmas Day.

It comes after police were called to reports of a road traffic collision in the Royal Wootton Bassett area.

The driver of a small red car ploughed into a wall before fleeing the scene, according to Wiltshire Police.

Armed officers were deployed – equipped with a drone rather than a firearm and successfully located the male.

A force spokesperson said the arrest was the first made on Christmas Day by the Roads Policing Unit.

The suspect is in custody, held on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
