Everything You Need to Know About Street Dice

Street dice – otherwise known as street craps or shooting dice – is one of the simplest gambling games you can play. If you’ve ever tried your hand at craps in a casino, then think of street dice as craps’ cousin. Faster and easier than the conventional table game, all you need to start playing street dice is (you guessed it) a pair of dice and a flat surface to throw them on.

If you want to learn how to play this game yourself, read on. In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about street dice, from the history of the game to the street dice rules.

What Is Street Dice?

Dice games are one of the oldest forms of gambling. Originally made from small bones or pebbles, the earliest dice date from around 3,000 BC and are even mentioned in the Bible. For hundreds of years, dice games have been played in gambling houses and taverns – but thanks to the lack of equipment required, they have also made popular street games.

Street dice takes its name from the long tradition of playing dice outside. It shares many similarities with craps but can be played in a casual setting without a casino table. The aim of the game is to bet on the likelihood that one player will roll a certain target number before they roll a combined score of 7 or 11 across two dice.

Some people believe that street dice has developed from a dice game known as Danger, apparently played during the time of the Crusades.

How Do You Play Street Dice?

To play street dice, you’ll need at least two players and two regular dice. During each game, one of the players will be known as ‘the shooter’, which means that they will be rolling. The remaining players are just onlookers and there’s no limit to the number that can join each round.

The Rules

  1. In order to ‘pass’, the shooter must roll either a 7 or 11. If they roll a 2, 3, or 12, it means they ‘don’t pass’ (this result is also referred to as ‘crapping out’).
  2. The shooter will decide the amount of money they want to wager and bet on the result of their first roll – ‘pass’ or ‘don’t pass’.
  3. The other gamblers must match this wager in order for the game to continue.
  4. The shooter throws the dice. If they neither roll a ‘pass’ nor ‘don’t pass’, the number which they do roll becomes known as ‘the point’.
  5. The players now bet on whether they think the shooter will roll ‘the point’ again before they ‘pass’.
  6. The game ends as soon as the shooter rolls either ‘the point’ or a ‘pass’.
  7. If they wish to, the onlookers can also play side bets. This means they can choose to bet on the particular number the shooter will roll next.

What’s The Difference Between Street Dice And Craps?

There are several different varieties of craps, but the main difference between this casino game and street dice is the fact that craps is played at a table, with a special section for players to place their betting chips. Craps is also overseen by a banker or base dealer, whereas street dice is monitored by its players throughout.
