Emergency services respond as person threatens to jump from Melksham Town Bridge

A person threatening to jump from a bridge sparked an emergency response this morning.

All three emergency services responded to the welfare incident involving a person in distress on Melksham Town Bridge at around 6am.

Police closed Bath Road in both directions as officers, paramedics and firefighters worked to save the patient from carrying out their intended act.

The incident was resolved successfully – the patient is understood to have been taken to a place of safety.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We responded this morning (03/04) to a concern for welfare at 6am on Bath Road, Melksham, along with the ambulance and fire service.

“We were required to close the road across the bridge briefly but the situation was resolved safely.

“Due to the nature of the incident, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
