Emergency services rush to gas leak as groundworkers hit pipe

Emergency services rushed to gas leak in Swindon this morning (Friday).

Fire crews were called to Southwold Close in Oakhurst following a report of groundworkers hitting a gas pipe at around 9.20am.

Police and the ambulance service were also deployed due to the potential risk of explosion.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The first attending appliance arrived on scene within five minutes of booking mobile to the incident confirmed a gas pipe leading to the property was damaged during ground works.

“The gas board checked over the property and neighbouring property and deemed them both safe for the occupants.”
