Two fire engines, one from Salisbury and another from Christchurch, attended the scene. Firefighters provided “casualty care” until the arrival of the ambulance service.

Wiltshire Police closed the road between Laverstock Road and the A36 Southampton Road.

A force spokesperson confirmed that “the driver of one of the cars was taken to hospital as a precaution”, and no other injuries were reported.

They added: “There were no arrests made.”
