Driver arrested after embedding car in Chippenham homeowner’s new fence

A driver has been arrested after he left his car embedded in a homeowner’s new fence.

Police were called to reports of a car crashing through a fence and coming to rest in a garden off Ladyfield Road in Chippenham last night (Friday, 4 November).

A red car – believed to be a Vauxhall Astra – lost control moments before impact. The vehicle was left just two metres from the front door of the property in in Lackham Circus.

The driver, however, reportedly left the scene following the dramatic collision only to be swiftly located by officers and arrested on suspicion drink driving.

Wiltshire 999s understands that the fence was new – having only been installed earlier this year.

Wiltshire Police said the smash caused “extensive damage”.
