Dramatic pictures show aftermath of A4 crash that saw woman taken to hospital

Dramatic pictures have revealed the scene of a three-vehicle crash near Chippenham.

Emergency services were called to the A4 Derry Hill shortly before 3pm yesterday (20 April).

Two fire crews were sent to the incident, where firefighters were forced to free a woman from a blue Honda using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof.

She was taken to hospital, but luckily only suffered minor injuries.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, based at Calne Fire Station, said: “Once in attendance we found one casualty trapped in a car being attended to by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

“Crews removed the roof of one of the vehicles so the casualty could be released and taken to hospital.

“Crews then made the scene safe. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that it deployed two ambulance crews and an operations officer (senior paramedic) to the incident before conveying a patient to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Wiltshire Police said no arrests were made.

In a statement, the force wrote: “One person has been taken to hospital as a precaution to be assessed for possible injuries which are not life-threatening or life-changing.

“There are no further reports of injury and no arrests.”
