A man who strangled his partner has been told to complete a ‘relationships course’.

Nigel Thompson, 47, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this week where he admitted assaulting the woman whilst she was on FaceTime with her daughter.

The victim’s daughter then reported the incident to the police.

Magistrates said the assault had a “clear impact on [her daughter]”, and she was the only person to provide a statement to police.

Thompson, of Groves Street, Rodbourne, was sentenced to a 12-month community order whereby he will need to complete a Building Better Relationships programme.

He was also told to pay a fine of £100, costs and a victim surcharge.
