Disqualified driver arrested in Highworth after fleeing police into bushes

A disqualified driver has been arrested after fleeing police in Highworth.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle at around 9.30pm yesterday evening (Monday, 20 November).

The vehicle failed to stop but came to a stop on the B4019 Cricklade Road – with the driver fleeing on foot into nearby bushes by Copper Beeches and Oak Drive.

Police dog Vagus and his handler were in attendance and carried out searches nearby. PD Vagus picked up a scent which he followed and located a man hiding in undergrowth.

The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bristol as also called in, circling the area for around 30 minutes.

A man, aged in his 40s, from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance. He remains in custody in Gablecross.
