Death of man in Trowbridge flat ‘not believed to be suspicious’, Wiltshire Police says

The death of a man in a Trowbridge flat this afternoon is not being treated as suspicious, Wiltshire Police as confirmed following their initial investigations.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Orchard Court, off Brown Street on the Longfield housing estate, shortly after midday following reports of the smell of gas.

In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Following the sudden death of a man in his 50s at a property in Orchard Court earlier today (15/12) we can now confirm that this is being treated as a medical episode and is not believed to be suspicious.

“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad time. A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner.

“Due to concerns about the smell of gas at the property, the building was evacuated and a gas engineer was deployed to carry out safety checks.

“The building has now been confirmed as safe and residents are being allowed to return.”
