Cyclist struck by car on A350 in Melksham airlifted in critical condition

A cyclist struck by a car in Melksham has been airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

Emergency services were called to the serious road traffic collision on the A350 at around 8.30pm yesterday evening (Friday, 3 November).

With the Wiltshire Air Ambulance helicopter offline for servicing and maintenance since 27 September, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were tasked to the scene.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, sustained significant injuries on being hit by a car – and was treated at the roadside by local ambulance crews and critical care medics.

He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, a regional major trauma centre, for urgent treatment. He was said to be in a life-threatening condition.

A detailed forensic collision investigation was carried out at the scene overnight.

The major route was closed between Hampton Park West and Semington, and reopened at approximately 6am this morning (Saturday).
