Criminal damage suspect arrested at gunpoint at Swindon petrol station

A criminal damage suspect was arrested a gunpoint by armed police in Swindon today.

A number of firearms officers were involved in the vehicle stop at Asda Petrol Station in west Swindon at around 1pm this afternoon as members of the public watched on in fear.

It’s not clear why a heavy armed police response was required, but police say the arrest was linked to yesterday’s pre-planned domestic-related operation in Newcastle Street. Officers were seen pointing their firearms at a house before entering and searching gardens nearby, but no arrests were made.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “This is part of the planned operation from yesterday.

“A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in custody.”
