A crime scene was in place today (Saturday) after a firearm and knife were found.

An investigation was launched into the concerning discovery, with armed police and forensics attending the scene thorough the day.

“There have been a number of firearms incidents in Swindon recently that Wiltshire Police are robustly investigating”, DI Dean Garvin, from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said.

He added: “The criminal justice system reserves long sentences for people willing to brandish weapons on our streets and our teams are working hard to put those responsible before the courts.

“Rather helpfully in this instance, identification belonging to two suspects was left inside the backpack alongside the now recovered weapons. Arrests will follow.

“If anyone witnessed anything suspicious in that area, or that they think might be connected to this backpack, we’d like to hear from you.”
