Crime scene in place as woman taken to hospital after falling from Swindon bridge

UPDATED 2PM: A woman has been taken to hospital after falling from a bridge in Swindon.

South Western Ambulance Service, supported by Wiltshire Air Ambulance’s critical care medics, were called to the scene in Evelyn Street, Old Town, at just after midday this afternoon.

Wiltshire 999s understands that police officers were talking to the woman, described as in distress, on the former railway bridge prior to her fall, with approximately five units parked nearby.

Police and paramedics treat the injured woman following her fall from the bridge

The A4289 Marlborough Road was closed in both directions – between Signal Way and Pipers Way – for around one hours whilst emergency services worked. An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, fire engine and ten police vehicles were in attendance.

The casualty was taken to Great Western Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Areas on and below the bridge have been cordoned off as a crime scene following the incident.
