Crime scene in place after builder suffers serious injuries in wall collapse

A crime scene is in place this morning as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigate after a wall collapsed on a man at a building site in Seend.

Two air ambulance teams were called to the incident behind the Post Office in High Street at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon following a report of a builder having been seriously hurt.

The critical care medics from Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance treated a man in his 20s for chest injuries. He was taken to Southmead Hospital.

“HSE is aware and are making initial enquiries”, a spokesperson for the body confirmed.

A police detective and forensic investigator from Melksham CID attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers were called by the ambulance service to the High Street in Seend yesterday at approximately 5pm to assist with what is believed to have been an industrial accident.

“A man in his 20s was taken to Southmead Hospital after a wall is believed to have fallen on him.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
