Countryside crash near Swindon leaves driver, 17, critically injured

A countryside crash near Swindon has left a young driver critically injured.

Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Draycot Foliat at around 11.20pm last night (Monday, 24 July).

A black Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway on a bend linking The Ridgeway and Draycott Close – subsequently colliding with a tree in a ditch.

Both Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) attended the scene alongside local ambulance teams, the police and fire service.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was flown to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol by DSAA with life-threatening injuries.

The front seat passenger, a 17-year-old girl, suffered hand injuries and was taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Three other occupants of the vehicle were uninjured and no other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed for around 13 hours for forensic collision investigation work to be undertaken.
