Council granted closure order for property after ‘parties, drug use and disturbances’

Wiltshire Council has secured a closure order for a property in Devizes this morning.

Solicitor Asifa Ashraf appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court with an application for a partial closure order for an address in Moyne Close.

Neighbourhood police officer Sara Hardwidge told the court there had been persistent drug use and anti-social behaviour at the property from 2010 onwards.

She says that on 1 March she visited the address to discover an “awful smell” and “drugs paraphernalia scattered across the floor”. Several known drug users were also present.

Over the past few weeks, the council and police have received numerous complaints from local residents and a councillor regarding parties and disturbances at the property.

PC Hardwidge said the order would protect the vulnerable occupant of the address.

“Covid-19 guidelines are in place and are also being breached”, Ms Ashraf added.

Magistrates granted the partial closure order. Only approved persons and the emergency services may enter the property – anyone else faces arrest.
