Claim undertakers high-fived after moving dead body under investigation

A claim that undertakers high-fived after moving a dead body is under investigation.

It’s alleged two members of staff engaged in the jolly hand gesture after moving the deceased person on a stretcher and putting them into a private ambulance.

The incident is said to have happened outside funeral services giant Dignity’s premises in Market Place, Chippenham, on Thursday (9 February).

The body had to be moved along the busy road due to a member of the public parking in the designated parking bay for private ambulances.

The person who witnessed the alleged high-five said it was ‘shameful’ and took place in full view of onlookers.

A spokesperson for Dignity confirmed that an internal investigation is underway.

“Caring for the deceased in a professional and respectful manner is at the core of everything we do”, they told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding: “In this instance, a vehicle was blocking our designated parking bay outside our premises. This resulted in colleagues having to transfer a fully and respectfully covered client a very short distance across the pavement to a private ambulance.

“We take the claims that our colleagues may have not been acting in an appropriate manner very seriously and will be investigating this further internally.”
