Christmas flooding fears in Wroughton as ‘Perry’s Lane Lake’ keeps growing

A major flood in a road in Wroughton is threatening to ruin Christmas as it continues to grow in size.

Some residents fear that the water will reach their homes on or before Christmas Day, with some flood water already completely flooding Perry’s Lane and many gardens.

Motorists driving too fast through the flood have been blamed for spreading the flood water into driveways and gardens, so the busy road was closed by the council.

Water remains flowing into what residents have now named ‘Perry’s Lane Lake’, but the council say that the cause of the flow apparently remains unknown.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council told Councillor Cathy Martyn: Swindon Borough Council Highways Operations team are on site distributing a pallet of sandbags to residents in the area of 50 to 61 Perry’s Lane.

“We are also putting out ‘slow’ signs as we are aware drivers are exacerbating the issue by driving too fast through the water.

“The Fire Brigade are on site, and the team are in contact with the Environment Agency.

“We will continue to monitor the situation.”
