Chippenham woman missing for second night – major search continues

A major search for a missing Chippenham woman is continuing this morning (Tuesday).

Emergency services are still trying to locate Fiona Edson, who is believed to be using a mobility scooter.

Police believe she left her home in Monkton Park on Sunday afternoon (25 June) – and has not been seen since.

Concerns for her welfare are mounting, with specialist search teams deployed on the River Avon over fears she could be in the water.

Fiona, aged in her 50s, is described as white, approximately five feet five inches tall, with dark brown hair in a ponytail.

It’s said that when she left her home address, she was wearing a khaki cotton shirt and blue denim shorts.

Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) were yesterday (Monday 26 June) deployed to support Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service as they continue the major operation.

This morning, the search continues – meaning Fiona has been missing for two nights.

The National Police Air Service helicopter circled above Chippenham and the countryside near Calne on two occasions yesterday, as drones were also sent into the skies by the police and WILSAR.

A force spokesperson said: “Officers are conducting extensive searches on foot, on bike, in vehicles and are being supported by volunteers from Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and colleagues at NPAS and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service in their efforts to locate Fiona.

“We believe Fiona may be in the Chippenham or Calne area – we are extremely concerned about her welfare and would urge anyone with information to get in touch.

“If you have information in relation to Fiona’s whereabouts, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
