Chippenham man recalled to prison after arming himself with ‘sharpened tile’ in disorder

A man has been recalled to prison following a disorder in Chippenham last week.

James Lait, 24, of Fortescue Road, Poole, was arrested in the early hours of 9 August following a report of a disorder at Unity House in Wood Lane, Chippenham.

He was located by officers with a sharpened piece of tile a short time later and arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

Lait was jailed back in March for multiple offences including assaulting a police officer.

Last week he was recalled to prison after breaching his licensing conditions.

PC Evangeline Templar said: “We received multiple reports of ongoing disorder in Chippenham in the very early hours of Tuesday morning – officers made a search of the local area and located Lait in St Mary’s Street.

“Lait was subject to recall to prison following his sentencing earlier this year.

“I hope news of his latest sentencing will provide some reassurance to residents that we will continue to respond immediately to reports of violent disorder and ensure those responsible are put before the courts.”
